The "Introduction to Distance Education" module is the first in this self-paced training program. It is recommended that you start here, even if you think you are familiar with distance education, as there may be some new information for you.

The module is divided into the following sections:

  • Defining Distance Education: This section presents different definitions of distance education and included a "Recipe for Success" for you to jot down and submit ideas about a distance education course you may be developing.

  • Proposing a Distance Education Course: This section explains how to propose a distance education course to the college administration, gives an example of a course proposal form, and offers information to help you with your distance education students.

  • Timeline for Distance Education Course Development: This page lays out a suggested one year timeline for creating a new distance education course.

  • Suggested Skills Development Courses for Faculty:  This is a list of training opportunities available through University of Florida departments that will help faculty develop technology skills which will be useful for distance education courses.
