Course Design
This module offers suggestions
to instructors who are adapting a course taught in a traditional classroom
or starting a new distance education course from the ground up. When designing
a distance education course, instructors need to pay close attention to
instructional design, content selection, interaction and evaluation methods.
The
module is divided into the following sections:
- Instructional
Design : This
section starts with instructional design issues (needs assessment, goals,
objectives, learners) and ends with tips for designing course content
and the initial steps to selecting the types of media you will use in
your course.
- Interaction: This
section discusses the importance of interaction in a distance education
course, the types of interaction that
should be included in a course, and tips for encouraging course interaction,
even with challenging delivery methods like videoconferencing and the
web.
- Assessment and Evaluation:
This section covers a variety
of assessment and evaluation strategies for use in a distance education
course, including diagnostic, formal, and summative evaluations.
